Palazzo Pitti

2/12/15

Day 28
I got an unexpected email saying that my afternoon class was cancelled and I was free! My friend wanted to investigate the Boboli Gardens which are free with our museum pass, so of course I was down. But when we got there- it turned out that admission stopped an hour before closing time. We'd already crossed the river to get there so we figured we might as well go to Palazzo Pitti while we were close. On the way, we stopped at another tea shop to inquire about spearmint tea. GUESS WHAT. It does exist in Florence!!! It's called "American Mint"- who would have known?

Palazzo Pitti was wayyyy cooler than expected! First of all, we were greeted by this on the way in:
And then we had it almost to ourselves.

Everything was made of gold. There was a succession of rooms leading to one with a throne in it that were all equally incredible. I could pathetically try to describe them all but it's faster if I just show you.
We will definitely have to come back and spend more time here eventually. There's a lot more to see and there are free guided tours so we can find out more about what we're looking at. But as soon as we left, we ran towards the bridge just in time to get gelato and watch the sun set. It was another good day :)
