Monday

2/2/15

Day 17
Monday was a little rough. It was jarring to come back and plunge right back into school. I woke up early to study for my first italian quiz. Miraculously, it went well. After class, I came home to relax for a little which was a welcome break from the rush of trying to see all of Rome in a weekend.

I then had a makeup class for urban studies and the guest lecturer was a Nigerian immigrant talking about how he came to Florence. It was really interesting and I could go into all the details but the takeaway was that after risking his life and escaping to Italy, he is subject to extreme racism here. It put America in perspective and made us look really good.

I found out a little while ago that a friend of mine from high school was also studying abroad in Florence and we decided to meet up for dinner. After a wild goose chase around the city, we walked into the nearest restaurant and it turned out to be a good choice! Of course, I'm still on my mission to find good Hawaiian pizza so that's what I ordered. We also got wine- but then only had one glass each. At the end, they brought out free shots of Mirto (A Sicilian liqueur) for us, and then didn't charge us for the wine!

(We walked passed the duomo and the Ponte Vecchio so of course I had to take pictures!)

I came home and finished up every last trace of Nutella- I'm pretty proud of my accomplishments.
